2011 Tournament Format
History: Trey Culotta, a Brother Martin heavyweight wrestler, was a 2 time Louisiana State Champion. Trey died tragically in an auto accident in 1999. Trey’s parents established the Trey Culotta Foundation in Trey’s name which provides the funding for this annual tournament.
Day 1
ß 2 Pools of 6 wrestlers each
ß Seeded 1-8 based upon seeding sheets submitted
ß Each wrestler has 5 matches on day 1
ß Top 4 from each pool advance to 8 man bracket on day 2.
ß No breaks between rounds
Day 2
ß Top 4 from each pool form a seeded 8 man bracket
ß 8 man bracket seeded based upon record on day 1
ß 8 man bracket is NOT a traditional bracket
ß Each wrestler in the 8 man bracket will have 3 matches
ß Bottom 2 from each pool have 2 consolation matches
ß Finals for 1st, 3rd, 5th and 7th will be wrestled by weight class utilizing all 4 mats
Scoring
ß Dual meet scoring for all matches on both days (6, 5, 4, 3)
ß If a wrestler makes the 8 man bracket on day 2, 18 team points added
ß First through eighth place finishers receive standard placement points
ß Place finish points: 1st=16, 2nd=12, 3rd=9, 4th=7, 5th=5, 6th=3, 7th=2, 8th=1
Pool Tie Criteria
ß Most wins in pool competition
ß 2-Way ties resolved by head to head results
ß 3-Way ties are broken by the following criteria, in order
-Total team points earned
-Most falls
-Most technical falls
-Most major decisions
-If all matches won by fall, then least cumulative time
-If all matches won by decision, then cumulative point difference
